Finally, it’s time for our annual summer KAL: We welcome you to our Summer Cardigan 2024. As is traditional, the cardigan has been designed by Maja Karlsson who will also share her tips and help for the knitting in blog posts which will explain all the steps. In this post, you’ll find all the information you need to participate in this summer’s Knit-Along. A warm welcome!

This KAL is perfect for anyone wanting to try a seamless top-down cardigan.
IMPORTANT FACTORS TO CONSIDER
Read through the sizing information carefully and measure your chest to help you decide which size to choose. The measurements listed in the pattern are the finished measurements of the cardigan!
Knit a gauge swatch to make sure that your gauge matches that given in the pattern. This is especially important when you are knitting a large garment such as a cardigan! If your gauge is not correct, the sweater will be smaller or larger than you expect.
YARN Merino Bomull (50% superwash Merino wool, 50% cotton, 132 yd/121 m / 50 g)
GAUGE Approx. 21 sts x 31 rows/rnds in stockinette pattern on larger size needles = 4 x 4 in / 10 x 10 cm. Adjust needle size to obtain correct gauge if necessary.

CONSIDERATIONS FOR CHOSING YOUR SIZE
The measurements given in the pattern are measurements for the cardigan itself. You’ll need to consider how much ease you want. If you prefer a somewhat looser sweater, you should add 2-4 in / 5-10 cm to your chest measurement. If you want a closer-fitting garment, choose a pattern size chest measurement that matches your own, or a circumference slightly smaller than your actual measurement.
The sweater has a straight silhouette so you can begin with your chest measurement. The cardigan has the same circumference at the waist as at the chest. If you want a shorter or longer sweater, just adjust it as you work by making the body shorter or longer after you finish the yoke.
IF YOU WANT TO KNIT THE CARDIGAN IN ANOTHER YARN
It is fine to substitute another yarn for Merino Bomull. Just make sure that the gauge will be the same as that given in the pattern. Also consider that linen, cotton, and acrylic are less suitable for color pattern knitting than wool. Because these yarns are smoother, they do not hold the structure well, especially when cut open for a steek. It means that you have to be extra careful when you reinforce the stitches before you cut the steek open.

FÄGRING (Beauty)
34003 – Moonlight + 34013 – Pine Green
Like a meadow of fresh hay! The finest beige shade together with a pretty soft green. Traditional and trendy at the same time. Maja knitted her cardigan with this combination.
DAHLIA
34007 – Montana Grape + 34009 – Keepsake Lilac
A hint of the romantic which is totally right just now. It is a happy color combination that works just as well for summer dresses as for autumn’s black jeans.
HAV (Sea)
34008 – Blue Depths + 34006 Dutch Canal
Did you know that blue is most people’s favorite color? Here, we’ve combined a delightful sky blue with the sea’s deepest shades of blue.
KÖRSBÄR (Cherry)
34014 – Fiery Red + 34000 – Cloud Dancer
A color combination inspired by one of the best berries. A red and white checked cloth with the croft’s freshly-washed plates on it or a summer cardigan in crisp white and bright red. A match made in heaven!
GRANIT (Granite)
34002 – Black Onyx + 34001 – Harbour Mist
Grey as ink, pencil lead, and mountains – lovely granite in the guise of a summer cardigan. Perfect for anyone who absolutely thinks that gray is the best color.
PION
34009 – Keepsake Lilac + 34013 – Pine Green
Like a knitted summer dream, is Maja's favourite. The choice for those who like the beautiful shades of the peony. Wear the cardigan to a summer party or as a colorful everyday favourite!
