Summer Cardigan 2022: MATERIALS
Finally, it is time for our annual summer KAL: We now welcome you to Summer Cardigan 2022!
As is traditional, the cardigan is designed by Maja Karlsson who will also guide you through the knitting via blog posts illustrating the various steps.
In this post, you’ll find all the information you need to participate in this summer’s Knit-Along. A warm welcome!

This KAL is perfect for anyone who wants to try knitting a seamless cardigan from the top down!
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
Read through the sizing information carefully and measure your chest to determine which size to choose. Keep in mind that the measurements in the pattern are the finished measurements for the garment itself! Make a gauge swatch to make sure that your stitch and row counts match those given in the pattern. This is particularly important when you are planning to knit something as large as a sweater! If your gauge is not correct, your sweater will be smaller or larger than expected.
MATERIALS
Yarn: Merino Raggi (75% merinoull (superwash), 25% polyamide, approx. 304 yd/278 m / 100 g)
Alternate Yarn Sugggestions:
Järbo Mellanraggi (75% superwash wool, 25% nylon, 284 yd/260 m / 100 g)
Järbo 2 tr Ull (2-Ply Wool) (100% wool, 328 yd/300 m / 100 g)
Colin (65% cotton (35% linen, 164 yd/150 m / 50 g)
Yarn Amounts:
Colour 1: Ca 400 (400) 425 (450) 500 (550) 600 (650) g (fg 75322, Blanch sapphire)
Colour 2: Ca 100 (100) 100 (100) 100 (100) 150 (150) g (fg 75315, Blanch antique)
Colour 3: Ca 50 (50) 50 (50) 50 (50) 50 (50) g (fg 75319, Blanch hazel)
Circular needle: U.S. size 6 / 4 mm (32 in / 80 cm)
Dpn: U.S. size 6 / 4 mm for sleeves (or circular if preferred)
Gauge: 22 sts and 30 rnds = 4 x 4 in / 10 x 10 cm in stockinette pattern on needles U.S. 6 / 4 mm, or size needed to obtain gauge.
Notions: 11 buttons (½ in /12 mm)

Size: XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL)
Cardigan Chest Circumference: Approx. 35½ (41, 44½, 47¼, 52½, 55¼, 59, 63) in / 90 (104) 113 (120) 133 (140) 150 (160) cm
Cardigan Length: Approx. 21¾ (21¾, 22, 22½, 24½, 26, 26, 26) in / 55 (55) 56 (57.5) 62.5 (66) 66 (66) cm
Cardigan Sleeve Length: Approx. 15¾ in / 40 cm (NOTE! The sleeve length is also affected by the yoke length.)
Recommended positive ease: Approx. 2- 4 in / 5-10 cm
CONSIDERATIONS FOR CHOSING YOUR SIZE
The measurements given in the pattern are measurements for the cardigan itself. You’ll need to consider how much ease you want. If you prefer a somewhat looser sweater, you should add 2-4 in / 5-10 cm to your chest measurement. If you want a closer-fitting garment, choose a pattern size chest measurement that matches your own, or a circumference slightly smaller than your actual measurement.
The sweater has a straight silhouette so you can begin with your chest measurement. The cardigan has the same circumference at the waist as at the chest. The sleeve and body lengths are easy to adjust because the cardigan is knitted from the top down! If you want a shorter or longer sweater, just adjust it as you work.
IF YOU WANT TO KNIT THE CARDIGAN IN ANOTHER YARN
It is fine to substitute another yarn for Merino Raggi. Just make sure that the gauge will be the same as that given in the pattern. Also consider that linen, cotton, and acrylic are less suitable for color pattern knitting than wool. Because these yarns are smoother, they do not hold the structure well, especially when cut open for a steek. It means that you have to be extra careful when you reinforce the stitches before you cut the steek open.
